Caleb smith is a 10th grader at Charles H. Flowers High School in the city of Springdale who hails from P.G. County, Maryland.
Caleb is barely 16 years old and he has already break a record of being the youngest Glider pilot in the United States according to FAA report.
According to WUSA-9, Caleb conceived this dream when he was 10 years during a discovery flight at Bowie Freeway Airport and he started working towards actualizing it.
He developed high passion for aviation following this experience he had at the airport. Smith will periodically fly with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) just to see if the passion for aviation was still intact.
As time goes on, he began to gradually pursue his dream by having one-on-one ground instruction and airtime.
As a reward for passion, Caleb was awarded a scholarship for gliding school in May 2021. With the aid of this, he was able to achieve his first solo after 33 flights and has already flown 12 solos. Furthermore, Juniel has done excellently well in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) written exam and his check-ride which enables him to acquire his Glider Pilot’s license.
Juniel credits Skyline Soaring Club at Front Royal Airport, in Virginia for awarding him a scholarship that helped him to achieve his long aimed goal. He furthermore stated that Destiny Aviation Services as also provided valuable aviation guidance in his early years and warmly welcomed him as a team member.
Caleb in his final speech says that his aim to be an inspiration to other young persons out there, letting them know that they can live their dreams if they stay connected with God, remain family-oriented, achieve a good education, maintain values, and above all, cultivate love and respect for others.
