The scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis with over 1500 scholarships beginning on January 1st, 2023, and ending on March 31st, 2023. Qualified students will receive a scholarship from the Alberta Government and the university at which they are enrolled. The award amount is $4,000 per year and the scholarship can be renewed for up to four years.

  • A completed application for admission, including a $35 non-refundable application fee and a transcript that includes grades, course descriptions, and dates of enrollment in secondary school (up to the age of 20).
  • A valid passport.
  • Three reference letters from persons who have known the applicant for at least two years. One letter from an academic or professional contact is recommended.
  • The Alberta Education International Office will confirm your citizenship within three working days of receiving this information and send you all other supporting documents needed to complete your scholarship application by mail once you are ready to submit it.

Eligibility Criteria for Alberta University Scholarships for International Students

To be eligible, here are the criteria:

  • International, out-of-province, and first-time Alberta resident applicants must have a minimum of two years of domestic postsecondary studies in Canada or the United States
  • Alberta residents who are graduates of an international high school may be eligible to apply for a scholarship
  • Students who were not born in Canada or the US may be eligible to apply if they have completed two years of Canadian postsecondary education and achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in their final year at that institution

  • These scholarships are not renewable even if the student remains in Canada. Scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants during the Fall semester or Winter semester of each academic year, and they will be disbursed following enrolment in September or October of that academic year.
