Program Description
The American Association of University Women ( AAUW) tagged the “BIGGEST SCHOLARSHIP” has long been offering International Fellowships since the year 1917. The program is aimed at supporting women in pursuing a full-time graduate as well as postdoctoral studies in the U.S. and women who are not United States dwellers or permanent citizens.
AAUW is providing a limited no. of scholarship awards for persons who wish to study outside of the U.S. (not including the applicant’s home nation) to female candidates who are registered as members of “Graduate Women International”.
Female candidates seeking to apply must be eligible with at least a degree which is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree (by the application deadline), applicants must also have to apply to their proposed institutions of study by the period of the application. Lucky applicants are selected on the basis of their levels of academic achievement and their commitment to matters relating to women and girls.

Eligibility Criteria for Applications Into AAUW Fellowships USA :
The International Fellowships at the USA are not open to former recipients of any AAUW national fellowship,scholarship or grant (not to include local and branch awards or any other Community Action Grants). Persons who are members of the AAUW committees,board of directors, panels, staff and task forces , including students on internships are not fit to apply for AAUW’s fellowships and grants. Anyone in hold of a current award is fit for election or even appointments to become part of boards, panels, committees and task forces. International Fellowships of AAUW are available to scholars who identify as females, in all areas of study at any accredited institution of higher learning or, for postdoctoral studies, research. AAUW will make the last decisions about what constitutes the fitness of institutions. Unsuccessful applicants can reapply to this program.
To be fit for an International Fellowship in AAUW, applicants must meet the following required criteria:
- Have citizenship in a country that is not in the U.S. or be in hold of a nonimmigrant visa if living in the U.S. Women who are expect or current to be during the fellowship period, that is women with a U.S. citizen card, U.S. permanent resident, or a dual citizenship with the U.S. and another country are not not fit to apply.
- Be in hold of an academic degree (the degrees can be earned in the U.S. or abroad) , however,it should be roughly equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree and must be completed by November 15, 2021.
- Applicants are to Intend devoting themself full-time to the academic plan proposed during the fellowship year.
- Applicants are to also return to their home country to read a professional career upon rounding up of their studies.
- You are to be proficient in English. The proficiency will be confirmed by submitting one of the Required documents (see below), which includes your English proficiency exams, academic transcripts from an English-speaking institution of higher learning, or a written statement confirming that English language is the applicant’s native language. Applicants who wish to take one of the approved English proficiency exams should make plans ahead for and take the test as early as they can. - Master’s or first professional degree and even doctoral applicants are expected to have applied by November, to any accredited institution of higher learning for the period of the fellowship time range and must show the name of the institution in the application forms for the International Fellowship application. While acceptance is not a necessity at the time of application, fellows are expected to provide official confirmation (the confirmation should be from the institution and is to contain their award acceptance materials).
- Master’s or first professional degree fellowships are only meant for master’s or professional degree-level programs which includes; L.L.M.,J.D., M.Arch., M.F.A., or medical degrees such as D.D.S., M.D, etc. Certificates or any associate degree and undergraduate (bachelor’s) degrees are not eligible.
- Doctoral fellowships are only meant for doctorate degrees grouped as research degrees, such as Ed.D. or Ph.D.
- Postdoctoral applicants are to provide proof of their already obtained doctorate degree; hold a doctorate grouped as a research degree (e.g.,Ed.D., Ph.D. D.M., D.B.A.) or an M.F.A. on or before November ; they are to also indicate where they will be conducting their research.
- Applicants who are Master’s or first professional degree and doctoral holders must be enrolled in any U.S. accredited institution of higher learning available in the U.S. during the fellowship year.
- A limited no. of awards are open to Graduate Women International members to pursue their study or research in any country other than their own home country. Note that branches of U.S. institutions of higher learning located in other countries are considered outside of the U.S.
- Applicants can go for the fellowship depending on the year of their program, and must be conducting a full year of research or study. As this International Fellowships do not sponsor a partial year of study or research in its programs.
- Programs ending before April of the fellowship year are not fit for this scholarship.
- Distance learning/online programs: Master’s or first professional degree and doctoral fellowships aid traditional classroom-based courses/programs of study at colleges or universities. This fellowship program do not in any way provide funding for any distance-learning or virtual/online programs or for degree programs that are heavily dependent on distance-learning apparatus or components. Last decisions about what makes up distance learning under these fellowships program will be made by AAUW. * AAUW will receive applications from students who are temporarily studying remotely due to the COVID-19 measures at their institution.

Required Documents For AAUW Fellowships USA
- Proof of the highest degree: Upload transcripts gotten from the college or university where the highest degree (not certificate) was bagged. Note that the highest degree must be not less than a bachelor’s degree
- Transcripts MUST include a list of courses you have taken and grades received.
- Never you upload copies of additional certificates or other documents you may have received during your education.
- A Proof of current enrollment (this is for currently enrolled applicants only)
- A Proof of either doctorate or M.F.A. degree (postdoctoral applicants only): you are to make upload of any one of the following above.
