Brilliant Lady Expressed Excitement As She Bags PhD Scholarship

A female Facebook user identified as Luca Soudant took to her Facebook timeline to show excitement and express gratitude as she bags a PhD degree scholarship from open universiteit.

Sharing this goodnews on WhatsApp, the lady wrote;

“MEGA EXCITED TO SHARE that I got a PhD position, fully funded by NWO. I am extremely grateful that I can now further dive into intertwining academic scholarship and artistic practice at the Open University, in collaboration with Maastricht University.

I want to thank Prof. Sarah de Mul, Prof. Aagje Swinnen and Dr. Louis van den Hengel for believing in this project and encouraging me to not give up. I feel blessed to work with them as supervisors in the upcoming years!

And a huge thank you to all the people who supported me in this process.

Some of you already know my obsession with Doritos’ ‘lady-friendly’ crisp: a proposed crisp design specifically for women, crunching less loudly. The ‘lady-friendly’ crisp sparked my fascination for gender as culturally formed in the realm of sound in-between humans and objects.

For the past year, I wrote a PhD proposal together with Sarah de Mul, Aagje Swinnen and Louis van den Hengel. With this proposal, I ended up in the final selection round of NWO’s funding for PhD’s in the humanities. Over a month ago, in front of the NWO commission consisting of eight scholars, I (nervously) opened a bag of Doritos crisps and loudly ate a chippie before starting my pitch. Today, I received the official news that I got the grant.”
