The Imo State Government has postponed the resumption of schools in the state until January 25, as the earlier announced January 25th resumption date is no longer feasible and is under review due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement released by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha, on Monday, January 18, in Owerri, said the postponement was a result of the rising cases of COVID-19 in the urban areas of Owerri West, North, and the Owerri Municipal Local Government Areas.

The commissioner maintained that schools can only reopen when all COVID-19 protocols are compulsorily observed, with a monitoring team in place to ensure compliance.

He warned that defaulters would be sanctioned accordingly and urged proprietors and principals of schools to be on red alert.
