Fire gutted a school building belonging to Pure Seed Montessori, in the Ifako-Gbagada area of Lagos State, on Monday.
The PUNCH gathered that the fire, which started around 4pm, emanated from a section of the building and spread to other adjoining parts of the school.
As of press time, the cause of the incident had yet to be ascertained.
Residents and passersby, who saw the fire, reportedly informed emergency responders who visited the scene to salvage the situation.
The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Fire Service, Jamiu Dosunmu, said one person sustained a minor injury.
Dosunmu said, “The Acting General Manager of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Margaret Adeseye, while addressing newsmen at the scene of the incident, said the fire had been successfully put out.
“On arrival, it was discovered that a twin duplex, a section is residential and the other is opening soon as Pure Seed Montessori, Nursery & Primary School, was on fire. Lagos firemen in their effort confined the fire to the upper floor of the building where it started while salvaging the building and adjoining property.
“One male adult sympathiser sustained a minor injury and was treated at a nearby hospital and discharged. There was no loss of life.
“Meanwhile, the fire was successfully extinguished, as the cause leading to it will be unravelled, with the immediate commencement of investigation.”
