Program Description

The scholarship is available for prospective international students who are enrolling in Master’s, Professional programs, or Doctoral Degree programs who plan to enroll before October 2023. Due to this program’s competitiveness, the university needs that applicants have to possess an excellent academic record as well as a keen interest in Hokkaido University and In the Japanese culture.

The fellowship program will award Up to 2,300,000 yen for degree the seeking students, it will be awarded for the 1st year. Also, up to 1,800,000 yen will be awarded for the 2nd year. This fellowship grant will cover the funds to Pay your application fees, your enrollment fees, your tuition fees as well as a monthly stipend. As For the Non-degree seeking students the fellowship will give them a scholarship amount worth up to 2,240,000 yen for the 1st year and amount worth up 1,800,000 yen for the 2nd year, they will get a Monthly stipend worth 100,000 yen to see for your living costs.

The participants of the fellowship will also Get an extra amount worth 220,000 yen for the degree seeking students while an amount 70,000 yen will be offered for research students and is to paid in the month of enrollment, as a participant you will get an amount worth up to 35,000 yen to see for the months of April and October to settle the Fellowship recipient’s travel expenses which were accumulated when traveling to Japan and when returning to your native country at the End of your studies and research, Moreover Fellowship participants will be accommodated in the University dormitory during the period of the program.

The length of the fellowships for the Master’s Degree Certificate can be awarded for a Maximum of two 2 academic years, for the Professional Degree available in Accounting and Public Policy may be offered for a Maximum of 2 academic years, while for the Professional Degree in the areas of Law may be awarded for a Maximum period of 3 years. As for the Doctoral Degree may be awarded for a Maximum period of 3 years, Doctoral Degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and/or Clinical Pharmacy may be offered for a Maximum period of 4 academic years whereas the Research category for students who will be entering into any of these above fellowship programs may be offered for a Maximum of 6 months

Eligibility Hokkaido University President’s Fellowship

• You are expected to be a current student or an alumni studentships or you are a graduate of a university that has Ruled an Inter-University Exchange Agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding on the specific Student Exchange with Hokkaido University.
• You must be a self-supporting student, without any other scholarship opportunity or fellowship funding when you are enrolling in Hokkaido University
• The Current students who are already enrolled at the Hokkaido University may not be eligible to apply for the fellowship program
• You are expected to have achieved a GPA that is in the leading 25% of your class or a related level at your home university
• Applicants who have equivalent GPA levels are expected to be certified by the president of their respective home university.

Application Process Flow For Hokkaido University President’s Fellowship

• Applicants cannot in any way apply directly to Hokkaido University . They will have to submit their applications along with these supporting documents to the university that has a verifiable MOA with Hokkaido University.
• The university will then choose one candidate and then forward the application of the selected candidate to the Hokkaido University within the fellowship application period.

• To apply, You must arrange, upload and submit the following documents along with your online application ; Get a letter of consent from your future supervisor, the Transcripts of Academic Achievement To apply for a PhD program, you must also have to submit both your bachelor’s and master’s degree transcripts. In addition to these documents, A letter of recommendation obtained from a supervisor at your university (there is no set form) should be uploaded.
• Lastly, the president of your university will have to submit an Official Candidacy Letter directly to the President of Hokkaido University.
