Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) has donated the sum of N500,000 to Ahmadu Bello University in aid for ABU Workers Football Club.
The donation was contained in a letter presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabir Bala, by the Institute’s Executive Director, Prof. Muhammad F. Ishiyaku in Zaria today.
Prof. Ishiyaku explained that the gesture was in response to the Vice-Chancellor’s letter soliciting for financial support on behalf of the football club.
While commending the Vice-Chancellor for his effort and foresight in resuscitating the once-famous football club, the Executive Director said the money donated was for the club to acquire one scoreboard.
Receiving the donation right in front of the Senate Building, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabir Bala, expressed gratitude to the Institute for the gesture, saying the monetary contribution would go a long way in resuscitating the club.
The Vice-Chancellor said that a number of sports bodies across the federation had signified their intentions to help the University restore its glory in sports.
He said that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) were already in contact with the University towards resuscitating sporting activities in the premier institution.
