The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship is happy to announce the opening of our applications for international students to enroll at Leiden University in Amsterdam. The prestigious study program is a one-year bachelor’s and master’s course, which starts on September 1, 2022.

Scholarship Description
The award for one semester is €400, for two semesters is €800 and the award for three or more semesters is €1,200.
Eligibility Criteria For Leiden University Excellence Scholarship
To qualify for this scholarship, candidates have to meet the following criteria:
- They must have permanent residence outside of the EU.
- The candidate must be enrolled in a master’s program at one of the Dutch universities.
- The candidate must be actively studying in their home country, but currently residing with their parents or relatives.
- Their admission to Leiden University is not based on submission (they have received it directly from Leiden University)

Application Fee
European Union: €25
Non-EU International applicant: €50
The application fee is payable before the application deadline. The fee is not refundable if the application is denied or withdrawn after the deadline.
Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor in Science Course:
A minimum study score of 70% in English at the HAVO or VWO level
A total average score of 5.0 (in Dutch) in two school years (i.e. not the overall study score)
Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor in Medicine Course:
The scores in the Dutch and English language exams, of the VWO or HAVO level. A minimum score of 5.0 (in Dutch) is also required.
Students planning to apply for a medicine study program should pay attention to their results in Biology and Chemistry at VWO or HAVO level, which are important for admission to medical universities.
Eligibility Criteria for Master in Science Course:
A minimum study score of 70% (in English) at the VWO or HAVO level
A total average score of 5.0 (in English) in two school years
Eligibility Criteria for Master in Medicine Course:
The scores in the Dutch and English language exams, of the VWO or HAVO level. A minimum score of 5.0 (in Dutch) is also required.

“Jurisprudence” is only available for students who study law at Leiden University. Other students can apply but there is no scholarship for this subject.

Other students can apply but there is no scholarship for this subject.

- Leiden University is offering a limited number of grants called Science Development Grants to excellent students. The Science Development Grants are designed for incoming students from developing countries who are planning to pursue their Master’s degree at one of the faculties in Leiden.
- Selected candidates will be granted an annual grant for three years and exempted from tuition fees for the study period.
