Out of about 20 million applicants that sit for UTME yearly, 60% don’t know the benefit of seeking admission through IJMB which could have been a good option for them.
IJMB which means Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) is a way out for many Nigerians to secure admission into universities and Colleges in Nigeria.
It is an alternative to the popular Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) examination which is the main qualifying exam for higher institution admission. The program (IJMB) runs for about 9 to 10 months. IJMB has been in existence (even before JAMB) since the year 1970.
The catching quality of IJMB is the fact that most universities will admit holders of this program’s certificate for direct entry into 200 level.
HOW IJMB WORKS
Students are assessed through the internally conducted Continuous Assessment Tests (CAT) which is conducted during a two (2) semesters program after which the main examination which is external is conducted at the end of the second semester by February.
Students are to undergo intensive teaching in 3 basic combinations of subjects to be determined by their choice of discipline to be provided by the school seeking admission into.
The courses and their required admission requirement including the subject combinations can be found at the admission portals.
The grade obtained and the other admission parameters will enable the school (for admission) to either offer or deny admission.
There are many Federal State and Private Universities that allow IJMB to be used as admission requirement based on the growing recognition of the program and they are as follows:

Failure to get university admission for hundreds of thousands of students every year has to do with the stringent requirement of passing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with high scores, IJMB is a good alternative in Nigeria even though only very few parents and students are aware and understand how this great opportunity works. It is really a very good and worthy option.
