Nigeria Law School Reaffirms 2015 Ban of Benin Republic’s Houdegbe North American University

The Council of Legal Education, CLE has sustained the bans on students of Benin Republic’s  Houdegbe North American University, Cotonou from Nigerian Law School admission.

The reaffirmation of the 2015 ban was made on Friday 16th, 2021 during a meeting to consider the appeals of the affected graduates on November 25, 2020.

A statement by the secretary of CLE, Elizabeth Max-Uba, it was disclosed that there are continuing concerns over substandard tertiary institutions in the West African sub-region, Benin Republic in particular, that target Nigerian students for commercial or monetary gains only.

“Although the Council has no regulatory control over institutions domiciled outside Nigeria, it is vested with powers to determine who is admitted into the Nigerian Law School and under which conditions.”
