Nigerian Governor Sacks Entire Cabinet, Gives Reason for Drastic Action

– Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has announced certain changes in his administration

– Ikpeazu did not give any reason for the sudden change

– The governor’s decision may come as a surprise to some of his appointees

The governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has approved the immediate dissolution of his cabinet. A spokesperson for the governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, announced the dissolution of the state executive council in a statement, The Sun reported. Ikpeazu has not disclosed when he will set up another cabinet.  Ememanka said the affected members of the council were asked to hand over all government properties in their possession to their respective permanent secretaries. The governor’s aide said Ikpeazu thanked the officials for their service to the state.

According to The Nation, Ememanka further stated that Ikpeazu also approved the recall from suspension, his suspended Chief of Staff, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere.

Agbazuere was suspended from office by Gov. Ikpeazu after a video showing him (Agbazuere) spraying money on self-styled Onitsha based prophet, Chukwuemeka Ohanemere, AKA Odumeje in his (Agbazuere’s) office. Unconfirmed reports have it that few commissioners were not affected by the cabinet dissolution.

Meanwhile, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has declared that he and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not leave for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as being speculated. The Guardian reports that the governor insisted that he would hand over power to a PDP governor in 2023, adding that the party offers what others don’t have. He told stakeholders not to panic over the rumour, saying that two chieftains of the party did so because he refused to promise them automatic tickets for 2023.
