It is common knowledge in Nigeria that holders of HND certificates from Polytechnics are deemed inferior and will need a master’s degree to measure up to the standards of their University counterparts.
A Nigerian lady identified as Akanbi Kemi on the social networking site, LinkedIn, has shared her remarkable success story on social media to the astonishment of many Nigerians.
According to Kemi, she graduated from the Lagos State Polytechnic with a Higher National Diploma, HND.
She then worked in the IT sector in the country for some years before she decided to travel overseas to further her studies.
Kemi eventually gained admission. Into the North Dakota State University for Computer science, (M.S) and the University of Cincinnati for Information Technology, (Ph.D) and she has commenced her studies at the University of Cincinnati.
Sharing her amazing story, she said she is putting up the post to encourage Polytechnic graduates that there is no limit to what they can achieve in life.
“The journey started June 2021 although stressful, I got the desired result. If you are interested in schooling abroad, do not limit yourself or self-reject the aim of this writeup is to give honour to whom it’s due and encourage Polytechnic graduates that we can fly as high as we want, the limitation is just in the mind. I graduated from Lagos state Polytechnic, worked in the IT space for some years then proceeded to apply for grad school in the US without any top up or Masters.”
After her post, her friends and followers on LinkedIn showered praises on her for sharing her testimony and also congratulated her for the feat.
