This article will look at the seven universities in Nigeria that offer optometry programs. Optometry is a healthcare profession that includes checking the eyes and other visual systems for flaws or abnormalities, medical diagnoses, and treatment of eye illness.
Historically, the primary emphasis of optometry has been on correcting refractive error via the use of eyeglasses. On the other hand, modern optometry has grown through time to involve extensive medical training in the diagnosis and therapy of ocular illness in nations where the profession has been formed and regulated.
Optometrists are primary health care practitioners who evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage illnesses and disorders of the visual system, eye, and adjacent tissues and identify linked systemic ailments.
When students complete this course, they will have a thorough understanding of how to diagnose, treat, and manage problems in the human eye. The student will study different eye illnesses and eye architecture, including light characteristics, eye optometry, and vision processing in the brain.
You should also be aware of the department to which the course belongs. Optometry is a course that may be taken in both the Science and Medicine faculties. The latter will be more science-oriented, while the former will be more focused on the medical approach. The following is a complete list of higher education institutions in Nigeria that provide optometry programs.
