Rivers State Govt Debunks The rumor That It Has Withdrawn Sponsorship of NECO Exams
The Rivers State Government has debunked the rumour that it had withdrawn sponsorship of the examination organised by the National Examination Council for candidates in the state, saying there was a standing directive for sponsorship of all public exams yearly.
This was disclosed in a statement by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku while reacting to the rumours that the government had withdrawn its sponsorship of the NECO.
He, however, stated that information regarding the registration for the said exam was received from NECO few days ago, saying it can be verified from the exam body’s Port Harcourt office and urged the public to disregard the fake news.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Rivers Ministry of Education has been drawn to a fake news aired in some radio stations and published in other news media that the Rivers State Government has withdrawn from the sponsorship of NECO examination.
“The truth is that the Rivers State Government, led by His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike, has not withdrawn from the sponsorship of public examinations, including NECO examination.”
Governor Wike last year abolished all forms of fees and levies in State-owned primary and secondary schools in Rivers state including NECO or WAEC fees and promised that the State Government will work out grants that will be sent to the schools for their regular management and operations.
