Why Education Is Important For a Country – We all know that education is important in society, but why? Too often, people focus on the benefits of education and not the reasoning behind why it’s important to begin with.

The human race is on an ever-advancing journey of discovery, and that’s thanks in large part to education. Education isn’t just important because it helps us learn how to read and write; it’s also important because it teaches us how to understand and connect with one another, both locally and globally.

Education not only helps you become a better individual, but it also makes you into an efficient and productive person and thus better at contributing to your society’s success and economy.

This list will provide you with seven of the best reasons why education is important for a country and why individuals in the populace need to obtain a form of education, no matter their age or situation in life.

Types of Education

Education is not just what takes place within a four walls classroom, there are different types of educational methods available that can help someone learn, whether it be to prepare them for a certain field or just educate them on topics they may not have been interested in learning before.

There are generally three types of education and they are:

  • Formal
  • Informal
  • and Non-formal

Formal Education

The form of education that children receive when they are required to attend school. It’s also known as compulsory education.

Formal education is usually provided by institutions and systems to teach primary, secondary, and tertiary students. Students are usually enrolled in these programs to achieve a qualification or certification.

This process often leads to subsequent schooling, also known as Higher education. It covers all levels of education up until a doctorate (PhD). Formal Education usually takes place in classrooms, but it can also happen outside of them through e-learning and distance learning.

Informal Education

Informal education is all of those methods by which people learn that are not sanctioned or supervised by official organizations, such as schools, governments and universities.

Often taking place at sites called Learning Centers, informal learning can happen anywhere where groups of adults and children come together with a common interest. Informal learning occurs in both developing and developed countries throughout their societies. This type of learning usually refers to non-school-based education like apprenticeships, after-school programs, and vocational training programs like Job Corps and trade associations.

Non-formal Education

Similar to Informal education, non-formal education is all about learning outside of a traditional classroom for individuals who do not possess the level of accreditation and certification associated with formal learning. The main difference is that this method of learning is usually more structured than informal education.

It is to help and teach people to do things by themselves. Informal education programs can occur in many places like homes, community centres, parks, cultural institutions and museums. They are very useful for those people who want to learn but do not have the qualifications, time or money needed. Non-formal Education gives a chance to everyone to get some knowledge without classes

7 Reasons Why Education Is Important For A Country

1. Money

If a country wants to increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP), it needs to invest in education. According to research, literacy rates and youth literacy rates strongly impact GDP growth in developing countries.

An increased labour force participation rate means greater GDP and increased availability of skilled employees increases a company’s ability to compete globally. The greatest benefit from investment in education is an educated population, capable of critical thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship, all elements that drive economic growth and social progress.

Education fuels individual income generation through job creation. In many societies, access to education can determine the populace’s future; with no schools nearby or poverty preventing enrollment costs, all sorts of problems are bound to happen.

2. Innovation

Everyone knows that an educated workforce is more innovative, which is key to growing a strong economy.

A progressive education system not only develops future generations of skilled workers and innovative thinkers but can also attract business investment.

With a well-educated population, businesses have access to more innovators,  thinkers, scientists, engineers, software developers, and creative types that will contribute positively to their society.

It’s not hard to see why innovation is an important factor for economic growth. Innovation leads to new products and services that contribute to economic prosperity.

3. Quality of life

Improving education means improving lives, being well-educated also has a direct impact on your quality of life.

Across a country, people with higher levels of literacy and numeracy tend to report greater health, happiness, and well-being. They’re also more likely to find good jobs that pay better and enjoy financial security benefits that ripple throughout families, communities, and even nations.

Individuals with better education are also far less likely to live in poverty or be incarcerated, freeing them up to contribute meaningfully to society as citizens.

In developing countries with low literacy rates and low educational attainment, people are less likely to be employed and less likely to earn higher wages if they do find a job.

4. Freedom

In a democratic country, citizens are free to do as they wish. Freedom requires education, as it’s impossible to exercise your right to choose if you don’t have access to reliable information. If everyone has a basic level of education and understanding, we’re all able to make informed decisions about who should be in office, whether we should support certain laws or initiatives, and so on.

Even if your country isn’t a democracy (or isn’t very democratic), you can still argue that educated citizens are more likely to be good contributors to society by working hard and not being anti-social or violent.

5. Knowledge

Experts believe that knowledge sharing is one of the best ways to boost a country’s competitiveness. The more educated people are, and better they are at thinking critically and solving problems, the more productive their countries can be in an increasingly global marketplace.

By enhancing both individual productivity and institutional effectiveness, education helps ensure that developing countries can continue on their path toward sustained economic growth. Moreover, it gives workers and companies in developed countries an edge over those in less advanced economies as well.

6. Ability to rise out of poverty

In any country, it’s important that people have access to education to help them rise out of poverty. Most people who can afford an education can afford a better quality of life and are able to expand their horizons. Without access to education, it’s often impossible for someone born into poverty in a developing country to improve their quality of life.

Education is also a great equalizer, providing opportunities for disadvantaged groups such as women and minorities that might otherwise not be available. Finally, when more people are educated, a country benefits from increased innovation and creativity, creating new inventions or ideas that benefit everyone on a larger scale than just one person could ever do on their own.

7. Security

Ignorance breeds more ignorance, so it’s no surprise that countries with a high percentage of uneducated citizens tend to be more prone to turmoil. With few resources and limited access to knowledge, people can quickly turn violent toward each other and toward foreigners when they don’t understand what’s happening around them.

It sounds like common sense, but you would be surprised at how many dictatorships exist in places where most people can barely read a newspaper or write their own names. To improve security for everyone in your country, whether you live there or not,  spread education as far and wide as possible.
